Professor Chris Myhr’s “Fathoms: The Weight of Smoke” was recently awarded Best Experimental Short at the Toronto Independent Film Festival. The film features layered imagery of the camera moving through clouds of underwater sediment hovering above the seafloor off the coast of Nova Scotia.
“Fathoms: The Weight of Smoke” is part of an ongoing body of work titled “Point-Line-Intersection” which examines the ways in which the ocean and its tributaries influence culture, history, and our collective imagination. It has been screened in seven different countries to date, and has received an Outstanding Achievement Award at L’Age d’Or International Art-house Film Festival (India), and an Award for Exceptional Merit at the Depth of Field International Film Festival Competition (USA).
