Christine Quail is an assistant professor in Communication Studies. She holds a PhD in Communication and Society from the University of Oregon, an MA in Media Studies from Penn State University, and a BA with Honours in English and Russian from Penn State University. Her areas of teaching and research include television studies, communication and culture, youth and media, and political economy of culture industries. Quail is the co-author, with Kathalene A. Razzano and Loubna H. Skalli, of Vulture Culture: The Politics and Pedagogy of Daytime Television Talk Shows (2005, Peter Lang), and has been published in Television & New Media, Global Media Journal, Studies in Media and Information & Literacy Education, and FlowTV. Dr. Quail currently holds a SSHRC grant to study reality TV and discourses of the nation in Canada. She was recently a visiting professor at Aarhus School of Business in Denmark. She is on the steering committee of the international academic/activist organization Union for Democratic Communications, and continues to work with students to develop community media literacy projects.
